What does this kit test for?
Human papillomavirus (HPV), using a vaginal swab you collect yourself. This is a Cervical Screening Test under the National Cervical Screening Program. Your sample is tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory.
Is this the same as a Pap smear?
No. In 2017, Australia replaced the Pap smear with the Cervical Screening Test, which tests for HPV. Read more about the difference.

Who should screen?
Under the National Cervical Screening Program, women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 who have ever had sexual contact are recommended to screen every 5 years.
I've had the HPV vaccine. Do I still need to screen?
Yes. The National Cervical Screening Program recommends that vaccinated people still have regular cervical screening.
Do I need a Medicare card?
Yes. This kit is available to Medicare card holders only.
Do I need to visit a clinic?
No. You collect your sample at home and send it back to the lab in the prepaid return satchel included in your kit. No speculum is needed.
How long until my kit arrives?

How long until I get my results?
Results are typically available within 3–4 business days from when the lab receives your sample. Results are reviewed by a GP before being released to you.
Can I use this kit if I have symptoms?

What happens if HPV is detected?
A GP will contact you to explain your result and the next steps. According to healthdirect, most HPV infections clear on their own within 1 to 2 years.
