What does this kit test for?
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea at three sites: genital (urine sample), throat and rectum (self-collected swabs). Your samples are tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory using NAAT (nucleic acid amplification testing).
How is this different from the Standard STI Kit?
The Standard STI Kit uses a urine sample, which tests the genital site only. This kit adds throat and rectal swabs, so infections at those sites can be detected too.
Do I need to visit a clinic or collection centre?
No. You collect all your samples at home and send them back to the lab in the prepaid return satchel included in your kit.
How does ordering work?
You complete a short online health questionnaire, which is reviewed by a GP. Depending on your answers, the doctor may need a short telehealth call with you first, at no extra cost. Otherwise, your kit is sent once the doctor has confirmed the test is clinically appropriate for you.
How long until my kit arrives?
Kits arrive within a few days. We deliver to mainland Australia (not Tasmania).
How long until I get my results?
Results are typically available within 3–4 business days from when the lab receives your samples. Results are reviewed by a GP before being released to you.
How soon after sex can I test?
TestSmart recommends waiting at least 2 weeks after possible exposure before testing. Read more about when to test.
Can I order if I have symptoms?
Yes. If you have symptoms, a doctor will have a telehealth consultation with you first to check whether this test is clinically appropriate for you. If it isn't, the doctor will advise you on the next steps. The consultation is included in the price of your kit, for both the Medicare and private options, at no extra cost.
What happens if I test positive?
A GP will contact you about treatment. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are bacterial infections treated with antibiotics. Your recent sexual partners should be notified, and the Australian STI Management Guidelines recommend retesting three months after treatment.
Does this test for HIV or syphilis?
No. HIV and syphilis testing needs a blood test. This kit tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea only.
Is it discreet?
Yes. Your kit is sent in discreet packaging, and the charge appears on your bank statement under a generic business name, not TestSmart.
